Jersey Shore vs Bloomsburg, High School Swimming

Boys: Jersey Shore – 58 Bloomsburg – 107
Girls: Jersey Shore – 111 Bloomsburg – 46

Jersey Shore Head Coach, Lee Thompson, has provided comments from the meet and are below:

Tonight, was Senior Night – a night where the Jersey Shore coaches, swimmers, parents and fans can show their appreciation for the individuals whom will be graduating this year. Jersey Shore will be graduating Joseph Buttorff, Darcie Jones, Luke Wolmer, Gabby Rossman, Steven Smeltzer and Madalyn Thompson. Three of our seniors are first year swimmers (Joseph, Luke and Steven) are a major help to the boys. The seniors walked through the cheers and high fives of their teammates to accept a rose from their parents and pose for a picture. A ten-minute special dedicated strictly to our seniors is not near enough the recognition that they deserve. The seniors and the rest of the team led Jersey Shore to another 1 - 1 against Bloomsburg.

Jersey Shore girls found themselves missing a handful of girls asking the other swimmers to step up and fill the suits of the missing swimmers. Jersey Shore girls won every event except the 100 Backstroke and the 100 Breaststroke. In the 200 Free, 200 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay Jersey Shore took first and second. Senior Madalyn Thompson took four first places, sophomore Lindsay Dudek took four first places and sophomore Jamie Mason took four first places as well. Jersey Shore girls stepped up and filled the suits of the missing swimmers with no problem.

Jersey Shore boys also found themselves missing one of their best swimmers, McKinley Thompson. Having missing one of their top swimmers the boys also had big suits to fill. The boys were going up against one of their top two competitors of the season. The boys had many great swims and many personal bests including Ian Endersen and Steven Smeltzer. Even though the boys had many strong swims they could not keep up with Bloomsburg much stronger team.

On a more personal note, tonight was one of the hardest nights of my coaching career – seeing my only sister walk through the crowd and accept her flower and soon a diploma. My sister – Madalyn Thompson is the most gifted, most driven and hard working swimmer that I have ever coached. I peeked through her Senior Portfolio for her class and glanced at her hero page and saw that I, Leland Thompson was the person that she most admired. Through our four years together Madalyn has not only become one of my most favorite swimmers, but also my best friend. No matter where she chooses to go and swim in college or career path she chooses; I will always be her #1 fan.
