The
Jersey Shore Kid’s Triathlon is set for Saturday June 22nd at 11:00
AM. In the past, the kids have weathered
extreme heat and monsoon like conditions but still had a great time.
The
triathlon consists of a lane lap swim in the Jersey Shore Community Pool, a
bike ride around the local neighborhood and finishes with a run on the path
around the Community Pool. The event is open to boys and girls from 7 to 14
years of age. See
here and here for an historical perspective of the event, pictures, and maps. Registration information can be found here.

Jersey Shore's 2nd Annual Kids Triathlon A Success or 'What's Next - Locusts'?
In 2011, local triathletes faced scorching hot weather at the start of the race. Certain parts of the route were shortened and water cooling stations were set-up throughout the course to keep everyone safe. Last year's triathlon posting can be read here. This year, July 27, athletes faced the elements once again as monsoon like weather moved in right before race time. Parts of the running route were under water as a nearby stream jumped its bank.
For the 7-9 year olds, they swam 25 yards, biked .71 miles, and ran .44 miles. The distance increased for the next age group with the 10-12 year olds swimming 50 yards, biking .71 yards, and running .54 yards. The last group to start, the 13-14 year olds, swam 100 yards, biked 1.77 yards, and ran .78 miles. A map of the course can be seen below.
This event could not have taken place without several sponsors. Jersey Shore State Bank was our financial sponsor and Lock Haven's Bike Gallery and Bonner Sports and RV provided plenty of door prizes for the kids.
Although unofficial, the age group results of the triathlon can be here.
Below are a few pictures of the event. Additional pictures can be viewed here.

Jersey Shore's First Kid's Triathlon A Success
It was hot! I mean flat out oven-hot yesterday for the Jersey Shore Kid's Triathlon. Over 50 kids challenged themselves and the elements. Race organizers prepared for the event as best they could, in light of the heat, and will be detailed throughout the blog. This event NEVER could have happened without the participation of volunteers. Additional pictures can be viewed here.
Below is a pictorial of the event just to give you an idea of the flavor of the evening. Click on pictures to enlarge.

Bike area where kids/parents placed bikes. Normally, the sock and shoes would be placed here but it was to hot for the kids to run over the pavement. The clothing transition from the swim to run would take place in the Jersey Shore pool area.
Jersey Shore Mayor Dennis Buttorf set up his 1970's shag carpeted motor home to serve as the registration table. This is where kids picked up their colored t-shirts (depending on age group) that also had the timing chip on it.

Which Logo Do You Prefer for the Jersey Shore Kid’s Triathlon
Here are five logos, designed by Todd Moore that Jersey Shore Borough officials and volunteers are looking at for the upcoming Jersey Shore Kid’s Triathlon. Note that only the logo in the upper left corner is in color. All logos can be done in color for posters and brochures. The logo must be in black and white for the T-shirt. For those not from the area the logos near the bottom incorporate a historical aspect of Jersey Shore, the Tiadaghton Elm. See here for more details.

KIDS TRIATHLON COMING TO JERSEY SHORE
TRIATHLON COMING TO JERSEY SHORE
The details are still being hammered out but mark you calendar for July 22, 2011. This triathlon for youth is being modeled after the very successful triathlon for kids in Lewisburg. Go here for more info on that triathlon. Several Jersey Shore kids participated in that event last year and it can be viewed here.
As of right now, the start time will be at 6:00 PM at the Jersey Shore Borough outdoor pool (pre-race registration will be earlier). Three age groups will compete; 7-9 year olds, 10-12 year olds, and 13-14 year olds.
Stay tuned for more information.
