Notes from Jersey Shore Head Coach Lee Thompson below and also link to Williamsport Sun-Gazette article here.

The Jersey Shore Bulldogs vs. The Williamsport Millionaires tends to be the areas biggest rivalries in almost every sport and swimming is no exception. Walking in the pool one would see nervous swimmers, parents and coaches pacing both the stands and the pool deck. But once the meet begins you can see the teams creating a much more friendly atmosphere. Jersey Shore and Williamsport has the upmost respect for each others swimmers, parents and coaches alike; training together during the pre-season and pushing each other during peak season. The meet turned out to be a spectacular showing for both Jersey Shore and Williamsport adding another win to Jersey Shore Girls column and lifting Williamsport’s boys up to yet another dominating victory.

As a head coach, it is my job to encourage my athletes even when our backs are against the wall. Jersey Shore Boys were facing their toughest competition of the season and my advice to the boys was to “Swim your own race and go for a time”. We have a handful of boys that are within seconds of making the District IV qualifying times, so by making lemonade out of the lemons they were handed; we added a few district qualifiers to our list. The Williamsport boys won the meet 110 – 59. Our girls knew that they were going against tough competition but they came to the meet ready to swim. Williamsport girls also came prepared and ready to swim; the Williamsport girls pushed back against Jersey Shore though out the entire meet. Even though the score was Jersey Shore Girls 101 – Williamsport Girls 69 the score didn’t show how close each and every race was.

As a coach I was very pleased with a handful of my swimmers for their hard work throughout the meet, taking the places that they needed and even swimming events that are not their specialties. For the boys: Tallon Royer – for swimming the 100 Butterfly nearly making the District qualifying meet and also reaching his personal best in the 200 Free. Joe Buttorff – for swimming his best time in the 100 Free; bettering his time by over a second. Steven Smeltzer – for qualifying for the District IV meet in the 100 Free and personal best by a half second in the 50 Free. Luke Wolmer – swam his first 100 Breaststroke and swam it completely legal. Cameron Hart – for his personal bests in both the 200 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke. Jonathon Weaver – for his personal best in the 100 Free by over 3 seconds. Lastly, McKinley Thompson – swimming his personal best in the 100 Breast by over 4 seconds.

For the girls: Courtney Breon – for making a District IV qualification time in the 100 Back. Addison Crawley – for her personal best and District IV qualification time in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Breaststroke. Katie Flook – for her personal best in the 100 Backstroke. Cassie Englert – for her personal best in the 100 Freestyle. Kayla Fryer – for her personal best in the 50 Freestyle. Darcie Jones – for her personal best in the 500 Freestyle. Kierstin Kemmerer – for her personal best in the 100 Butterfly dropping over 3 seconds. Alaniah Rosencrance – for her personal best in the 100 Freestyle. Madalyn Thompson – for her personal best in the 200 Freestyle by 6 seconds.
