Need A Little Extra Pool Time?

While the competitive swim season is still a ways off, there are plenty of opportunities out there to get some swimming in.  Locally, there is Jerry Hammaker's swim clinics at Lycoming College.  You can view that information here.  There is also the  Lock Haven YMCA Swim Clinic that will begin on September 9th.  Information can be obtained at the Lock Haven YMCA.  Finally, the Williamsport Area Swim Club (WASC) starts up practice in September.  Unfortunately, the Williamsport High School pool is still undergoing renovation and WASC will be practicing at the Williamsport YMCA until October. There is a WASC Open House at the Williamsport Area High School on September 19th from 6-7 PM.

Area Swimmers Hit Triathlon Then Jump High Dives

Swimmers from Lock Haven, Williamsport, and Jersey Shore participated in the 2nd Lumberjack Triathlon in and along the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.  Results can be viewed here.  Afterwards, several swimmers and friends ventured over to Penn State to try their hands at diving off the high dives.  Some pictures of both events are below.

Next up after the triathlon was the Penn State High Dives.  In addition to the high dives at Penn State, the kids took advantage of the springboard dives.  The next three photos show the sequence of an attempted flip by Jacob.  Click on photos to enlarge.

How The Champs View Things

It is always interesting to see how other swim teams view their achievements. Read the story here. Although Jersey Shore didn't swim a dual meet against the Lewisburg Gators, they did meet up in All-Stars and Championships.

Jersey Shore Residents Try To Fight Off Closing Of Outdoor Pool

While Art Cipriany is no longer around to be a strong advocate for the outdoor pool (see yesterday's post here), several other community members are picking up the challenge. The Jersey Shore Water Aerobics Group decided to be proactive and hold a fundraising pool party from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday to help defray the costs of running the pool. The party is entitled "Be a Lifesaver & Save our Pool."  You can read the article here for more information.

Art Cipriany - Jersey Shore Youth Lose An Advocate

There are leaders in a community and then there are LEADERS.  Art Cipriany was one of those LEADERS that believed in the Jersey Shore community.  Several decades ago, Art (along with a few other folks), saw a need for recreational opportunities for local youth.  As a result of their commitment and vision, the Jersey Shore Borough Outdoor Pool came about.  While several local leaders are licking their chops with the opportunity to close the pool, Art is still fighting for Jersey Shore youth.  Go ahead, read the last paragraph of his obituary.

Jersey Shore Moves Up In GSVAL All Star Meet Ranking

The 15-and-over boys 100 fly was the ONLY event of the evening that only had one heat, and it was clear that Shawn Smith won by several seconds – but he was listed 4th in the initial results.   Officials went back and pulled the time card, and confirmed that the time had been erroneously entered into the computer (1:15.xx instead of 1:05.xx).  This was corrected in the scoring; this meant that Shawn WON the 100 fly, and that final top five standings were 1. Wellsboro, 2. Lewisburg, 3. Loyalsock, 4. Jersey Shore tied with Selinsgrove (Jersey was pegged at 5th place).  See original score sheet here.
