Jersey Shore Swimming Alum Dave Sheets Earns Sports Hall of Fame Status

Congratulations Dave Sheets for your induction to the 



Dave Sheets, a 20-time NCAA Division II All-American and 9 time PSAC champion swimmer under coach Bill Miller, was an outstanding backstroke/IM specialist and leader of the Golden Eagles Men's swimming and diving teams from 1990 - 1993.


Team captain as a senior in 1993, Sheets won the 200 I.M. (1:56.12) and the 200 backstroke (1:52.48), plus placed 2nd in the 100 back (52.87) at the PSAC's leading the Eagles to a second place finish. Clarion went on to a 6th place team finish at the NCAA's paced by Sheets who was a 4-time All-American placing 11th in the 200 backstroke and 13th in the 200 I.M., along with the 5th place 400 medley and 7th place 800 free relay.


A three time All-American as a freshman in 1990, Sheets brought back 6 A-A honors in 1991 helping the Eagles to a 3rd place NCAA finish. He was 8th in the 200 back and 14th in the 200 back along with four relays. The Eagles were also second at PSAC's.


Then in 1992, Clarion won the PSAC team title and sprinted to an unbelievable second place finish at the NCAA D-II Nationals – the men's best ever NCAA finish. Sheets was a two time individual winner at PSAC's in the 100 and 200 backstroke, then went on to nationals and was a 7-time All-American placing third in the 200 and fifth in the 100 backstroke, 9th in the I.M. and four A-A relay swims.


A 1989 Jersey Shore grad, Sheets, the boys and girls coach at Brookville (1996) and Butler (1997-2000) high schools, is currently in his 16th year as head women's swim coach at Duquesne University. He was the 2015 Atlantic 10 "Coach of the Year. Dave was also the men's head coach for seven seasons (2004-10).


Married to Christina Tillotson, a 2006 Clarion Sports Hall of Fame inductee, the couple reside in Allison Park with their son Benjamin and daughters Elizabeth and Alaina.
