It does take a community to support a public swimming pool to make it accessible to youth and families year in and year out. Businesses, government officials, parents, and volunteers are critical cogs in the process of making things happen for the local pool but someone needs to take the lead and be point person for all these efforts. The Community Pool at Mill Hall has the great benefit of having Kelly McGhee, a tireless advocate for the pool, leading the way. Below is a letter to the editor she wrote for the Lock Haven Express to say thank you to everybody for their efforts this year. The Jersey Shore Swim Blog recognizes her and others like her across the state of Pennsylvania that make things happen.

Thank you for posting this information. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. I am not the only person to be recognized though. There is a committee of volunteers - The Friends of the Community Pool, who are there to make the decisions and keep things in perspective as to how things need to be done to make the pool a success every season. I would like those people to be recognized for their energy, time and dedication- Ken McGhee, Richard Killinger, Carol Matheney, Rebecca Raymond, Darlene Weaver, Rebecca Gugino, Susan Brungard and the Mill Hall Park crew who are there to help whenever it is needed. My one wish is, could we have more people come forward and get involved. Swimming is a life skill and when are the right decision makers going to realize this?? The meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month either at the Pool itself or the Mill Hall Borough Office. We are inviting you to become involved and make it known that swimming and aquatics are wanted and needed in the community for today, tomorrow and the future. Again, thank you, I appreciate your acknowledgement!! -

Kelly McGhee
