Youth sports and activities in Jersey Shore were expected to take a huge hit with a recently implemented school board policy. It would cost a non-profit group $75 to use a facility for practice, events, and activities. The cost of one time events could easily be covered but groups that meet daily over several months would have a difficult time paying the thousands of dollars in fees.
The policy would affect the YMCA (both swimming and after-school programs), youth wrestling, Little League baseball (Nippenose and Salladasburg fields), Legion baseball, youth cheerleading, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and John Bower basketball (held at Nippenose Elem.) to name a few.
The topic was addressed last night at the Jersey Shore School Board meeting and part of the discussion can be viewed here.
