Williamsport HS Swimmer Excels In and Beyond Water

Really neat article in today's Wiliamsport Sun-Gazette about Clair Smith, a 12 varsity letter winner at Williamsport High School.  Four of those varisty letters came from swimming.  To highlight some points of the article:

• Working is something that Smith is clearly good at, as she quickly progressed as a swimmer despite not having much experience before high school.
• "From the moment she came to the team as a freshman she showed leadership," said Smith's swim coach Bill Keiser. "Her leadership is what sticks out and her work ethic is unmatched. Claire was definitely a true leader and she improved from her freshman year to her senior year."
• Smith is heading north to Gannon University where she plans to walk onto the swim team while majoring in occupational therapy.

Williamsport HS Swim Teams Win Over Mount Carmel

In boys swimming, Williamsport finished the PHAC season with a perfect 8-0 record Thursday night after its 108-40 win over Mount Carmel to win its eighth consecutive league title.

In girls swimming, Williamsport defeated Mount Carmel 105-69 after winning a pair of relays.

Williamsport HS Swim Teams Splits With Hazelton

From the February 5 edition of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette.

The Williamsport boys swim team continued to impress with a 108-75 win over Hazelton. The boys looked convincing in the relays taking the 200IM and 200 and 400 Freestyles. Trevor Harris, who helped on two of the three relay teams, won the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:04.02 finish.

On the girls side, Hazelton took home top finishes in two of three relays en route to a 104-80 win. The combination of Bethann Schwoyer, Kelsey Harris, Claire Smith, and Haley Miller were able to take home a top finish in the 200 IM relay.

The Jersey Shore Bulldogs vs. The Williamsport Millionaires tends to be the areas biggest rivalries in almost every sport and swimming is no exception. Walking in the pool one would see nervous swimmers, parents and coaches pacing both the stands and the pool deck. But once the meet begins you can see the teams creating a much more friendly atmosphere. Jersey Shore and Williamsport has the upmost respect for each others swimmers, parents and coaches alike; training together during the pre-season and pushing each other during peak season. The meet turned out to be a spectacular showing for both Jersey Shore and Williamsport adding another win to Jersey Shore Girls column and lifting Williamsport’s boys up to yet another dominating victory.

Williamsport HS Swim Teams Splits With Danville

In girls swimming, Williamsport fell to Danville, 96-83. Williamsport's Claire Smith, Kelsey Harris and Kirby Bittner all picked up individual wins for the Millionaires.

Williamsport HS Swim Teams Split With Lewisburg

In girls swimming, Lewisburg's Maggie Storm and Allison Friery led Lewisburg to a 56-43 win over Williamsport. The duo combined for two relay wins to go along with its individual victories.

Matt Runtas and Trevor Harris each won two individual events en route to a 102-69 win over Bloomsburg. Bloomsburg's Zach Stevens set a pool record with a time of 1:55.06 in the Individual Medley.

Bethann Schwoyer scored wins in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard back to lead Williamsport's girls swim team to a 95-85 win over Bloomsburg.

Williamsport HS Swim Teams Open With Wins

The Williamsport boys and girls swim teams both opened the first meet of the season with wins against Athens. On the girls side, Williamsport defeated Athens 92-50. Williamsport's Megan Hepler, Kelsey Harris, Claire Smith and Catherine Campana finished first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:08.22 while Hepler, Alex Isacsson, Kiera Calskey and Courtney Snyder took first in the 400 freestyle relay in 5:01.76.

On the boys side, Williamsport won, 94-48. Matt Runtis and Bryan Nardone both took first in two individual events and also helped the Williamsport boys 200 medley relay team finish first. Nardone also helped the 400 freestyle relay team place first.
