Jersey Shore swimming community member, Kelly Butzler, presented an idea at last night's board meeting. A write-up can be viewed in this morning's Williamsport SunGazette
here. She suggested that the board look at what some other school districts are doing in southeast Pennsylvania with going after corporate sponsorships.
She handed out some articles that showcased and explained the idea. One
article, talked about a company called Market Street which can negotiate “sponsorship opportunities” for almost anything with a physical presence on campus — libraries, administration buildings, cafeterias, conference rooms, guidance offices, nurse’s offices, art rooms, photo labs, band rooms and chorus spaces. She also handed out a description of that company
here.
Business logos/sponsorship are nothing new in Jersey Shore schools. The football scoreboard has a Sovereign Bank sign, the baseball shed has an Avis Supply sign, and Aquafina drink machines in lobbies. Did these businesses buy or at least donate money towards these items? Why not expand? Butzler's idea is to take this to the next level.
