The Jersey Shore Swim Team hosted Mifflinburg this past Saturday morning in a Greater Susquehanna Valley Aquatic League dual meet in which over 100 swimmers competed.

Of the 58 individual events, Shore captured 33 with two triple winners, nine double winners and twelve single event winners.  In addition, the black and orange crew took 12 out of 17 relays to run their season record to 2-2.

Nash Berfield (swimmer in top lane) sprinting to the
wall ahead of Mifflinburg’s Bo Gethel for a first place
finish in the 50 yard freestyle in the boys
12-and-under age group.
The triple winners included swimmers in two different age groups, as Nash Berfield, in the 12-and-under boys' age group, won the 50 yard (yd) freestyle in :29.97, the 100 yd individual medley (IM) in 1:16.82, and the 50 yd backstroke  in :37.18.

Sam Keegan won all three of her individual events in the 11-12 girls' age group, taking the 50 yd breaststroke in :37.49, the 50 yd butterfly in :33.15, and the 100 yd IM in 1:12.29.

Keegan is also part of the only undefeated age group, boys and girls, left on the team with their 55-18 win over Mifflinburg.  She anchored a strong 200 yd freestyle relay with Lauren Creveling, Natalie Charnego, and Jessica Creveling.

A little bit of sibling rivalry was on display in the 100 yd freestyle as Lauren and Jessica dueled it out over the four lengths of the pool.  Lauren out-touched her sister by 1.5 seconds for a 1-2 finish.

The other winner in this age group was Dayanaira Watson  with a win in the 50 yd backstroke over teammate Katie Hendricks

One Jersey Shore team record fell by the wayside as Emma Butzler smashed a 16 year old record by nearly 2.5 seconds in the 100 yd IM previously held by Allison Taylor.

Shore’s Natalie Charnego swims the butterfly leg on the girls 21-and-under 200 medley relay.  They would go on to win the event in a time of 3:01.40.

Jersey Shore’s Madalyn Charnego takes a peek at the competition in the girls 18-and-under 200 yard freestyle.
