Central Mountain Swimming had a busy holiday season. Powerful Clearfield came to town on December 20 and announced their first year dominance in the Mountain League. They won both Girls and Boys Meets. Girls 68 - 22; Boys 66 - 27. However there were several bright spots, CM had 3 district qualifiers, Emily Holladay, 100 Breast (1:17.84) needing at least a 1:22.00, Eric Lugg, 100 Back, (1:10.87), needing at least a 1:11.00, Andrew Barrett, 100 Butterfly (1:03.09), needing at least a 1:11.00.
Also swimming against Central Mountain in the same evening was Penns Valley. This team is small and mighty but Central Mountain was able to come up big against them, with the girls winning, 56 - 21 and the boys winning 54 - 34 Putting Central Mountain at 500 for the girls and boys teams in the Mountain League.
A non - Mountain League contest was against the always tough St. Marys on December 23. This team is always good competition. They won both contests, Girls - 103 - 57; Boys - 97 - 59. Central Mountain had some great swims from the girls 400 Free Relay with Bethany Barrett, Autumn Shultz, Rachel Salmon and Rachel Sackett swimming to a first place finish, a second place finish from the 200 Free Relay - Brennan Register, Bethany Barrett, Hannah Williams, Hannah Worden, a second place finish from the 200 Medley Relay, Bethany Barrett on Back, Hannah Worden on Breast, Brennan Register on Fly and Rachel Sackett on Free. Placing strong seconds in individual events were Brennan Register, 50 Free and 100 Butterfly,Rachel Sackett for the 500 Free, Bethany Barrett in the 100 Back. The Boys had strong swims from Phil Rodo, coming in first and qualifying for districts in both the 50 Free, 25.15 and 100 Free, 56.43, needing at least a 59.00; Benjamin Jones, placing second, in the 500 Free, 6:18.25, Eric Lugg coming in second, in the 100 back, 1:13.78, the 200 Free Relay came in second with Jordan Suter, Phil Rodo, Andrew Barrett and Eric Lugg, the 400 Free Relay came in first with Amenish Chavan, Jeff Smith, Alex Moldovan and Tyler Sheets, the 200 Medley Relay came in second with Eric Lugg on Back, Tyler Sheets on Breast, Jordan Suter on Fly and Phil Rodo bringing it home with freestyle. Also qualifying for districts at this meet was Jordan Suter in the 200 free (2:13.34) needing at least a 2:14.00,
The first meet of the New Year (last night), Central Mountain swam against Huntingdon, starting on the right foot, winning both contests, Girls, 94 - 63; Boys, 77 - 70. The girls were swimming very sound with first places from the 200 Medley Relay made up of Bethany Barrett, Emily Holladay, Brennan Register and Rachel Sackett, Hannah Worden in the 200 Individual Medley, Register taking firsts in the 50 Free and the 100 Fly,Rachel Sackett in the 500 free, 200 free relay - Register, Holladay, Sackett, and Shultz, Barrett in the 100 Back, Holladay in the 100 Breast and the 400 Free Relay - Barrett, Hannah Williams, Worden and Holladay. Providing very exciting moments at the meet were Hannah Worden swimming the 200 IM, holding off Huntingdon’s Alex Watson with a 2:57.25 and Watson coming in at 2:59.93. Benjamin Jones playing cat an mouse with Huntingdon’s Jeremy Snare, overtaking him in the last 50 of the event! And Eric Lugg coming from behind in the 200 Free to overtake Snare again.
Next up for Central Mountain is the Arctic Classic in Clearfield on Saturday, January 8th and a home meet Monday, January 10th,at Lock Haven University, Zimmerli Pool at 6:30 PM swimming against non-Mountain League foe, Dubois.
