A good write-up on this meet can be found in today's edition of the Williamsport Sun-Gazette here.

There is also an article in today's Lock Haven Express which can be found here or below.

When Jersey Shore swim coach Lee Thompson was trying to fill out his swimming roster, he made a specific pitch to anybody that listened. It went something like this: First place wins the race but not the meet."

That means that a whole lot of points can be accumulated with second-, third- and fourth-place finishes.

Coach Thompson got to see that mantra come into play in the boys' second dual meet of the year as the Montoursville boys won every event but two and Jersey Shore (1-1) still came out on top..TO READ MORE ABOUT THE JERSEY SHORE/MONTOURSVILLE SWIM MEET, THEN CLICK ON "READ MORE" BELOW....

The Bulldogs were 83-79 winners over the Warriors, while the girls' team also picked up a slim, 86-84 victory.

The boys' team won because of their strength in numbers. Jersey Shore was only able to capture the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 100 breaststroke as Montoursville took first in the other nine events. The Warrios took first, but Shore went on to take the 2-3-4 slots.

It did take several events for the Jersey Shore boys to dig out of the hole. It was only after event nine (100 backstroke) that the Bulldogs tied the score. The next event, the 100 breaststroke, propelled them into a six-point lead thanks to Ian Endersen's, Derek McPherson's and Tyler Smith's 1-3-4 finishes. Montoursville again took first during the last relay, giving it eight more points, but Jersey Shore finished second and third giving it enough points to seal the win.

Not that the girls had an easy time.

"Going into the meet, I knew that it was going to be very fierce competition, some of the fiercest competition that District IV has to offer for both boys and girls," coach Thompson said.

Right from the start, the Montoursville girls went 1-2 in both the medley relay and the 200 freestyle, putting Shore down by 16 points. Montoursville's lead increased to 17 points after the 50 freestyle, leaving only seven more events to catch back up.

Jersey Shore (2-0) started to make a move as Lindsay Dudek, Katie Flook and Kiersten Kemmerer went 1-2-4, respectively, in the 100 butterfly. Teammates Maddi Thompson, Addison Crawley and Erica Leese went 1-3-5 in the 100 freestyle, closing the gap between the two teams.

The gap decreased to two points as Jersey Shore took second and third in the 200 freestyle relay. The momentum carried into the next event as Jersey Shore's Dudek, Kayla Fryer and Leigh Ann Eisenhauer went 1-4-5, tying up the score at 70-70. But again, the Lady Bulldogs fell behind as Montoursville captured the 100 breaststroke.

Jersey Shore had to take first and another top 3 placing to win the meet.

The team of Maddi Thompson, Addison Crawley, Jamie Mason and Flook did their part as they touched the wall first. It was up to their teammates in the 'B' relay to pick up the final points for the win. The foursome of Alaniah Rosencrance, Fryer, Courtney Breon and Dudek were in a race that was neck-and-neck to the last lap. Dudek was able to out-touch Montoursville's 'B' team for a third-place finish, giving the girls the final points to lead Jersey Shore to a victory over Montoursville.

Jersey Shore will hit the pool again Friday, traveling to Lewisburg for its next meet.
