Where's a nice thunderstorm when you need one???

Well, you can't have a closer meet than the one that we had against Jersey Shore. While in most seasons Jersey Shore (perennial League champion) beats us pretty soundly, this year things were different. Our swimmers in every age group swam hard throughout the evening, with the running score tied at 5-5 through most of the meet. Just before the final relays began, however, our team surged to a 6 1/2 - 3 1/2 lead - if a thunderstorm had hit right then, the meet would have ended, and our team would have come away with a major upset.

Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side (in kind of a reverse fashion!) and the relays were swum. The 8 and under boys, who led 21-20 despite not having a medley relay team at all (thanks to another first place sweep by Angelo Silvagni and Alex Zicolello), didn't have enough swimmers for the final relay, and so lost 29-21. The 8 girls, however, were able to widen their 25-21 lead (built on first place finishes by Cassandra Gee and Lydia Smith) with a first place finish in the free relay (Amya Leinbach, Lydia Smith, Summer McNulty, and Cassandra Gee).

The 10 boys, led by Sam Jordan (1 win), Keith Reis (2 wins), Quinn Serfass, Jacob Waltz, Jared Garrison, Isaiah Ballard, and Daivon Leinbach, led throughout for a 39-31 age-group win. The 10 and under girls ran into a buzz saw in the undefeated Jersey Shore 10 year olds, placing no higher than 3rd in any event despite several strong swims. The 12 boys, again swimming undermanned and unable to field a relay team, nevertheless had strong performances by Eddie Good (swimming without a cast!), Ben Cramer, and Alex Vogel.
The 12 girls finished the season undefeated to clinch the trophy in that age group, with a win by Elizabeth Good in the 50 breast a pleasant addition to the customary sweeps by Kristina Reis and Natalie Zicolello in the other individual events (and a first in the Medley Relay, along with Hannah Sheppard)

The 14 boys rode strong swims by John Good (3 wins), Nick Pellegrino (1 win), Jasper Van Dyk and Sam Williams to lead 34-30 going into the final event, but a 1-3 finish by Jersey Shore in the Free Relay resulted in a 37-37 tie (the second tie for this group this season).
The 14 girls turned in their best performance of the season, starting with a win by the team of Allie Hamilton, Jolene Drum, Courtney Snyder, and Jenna Dugan in the Medley Relay, and featuring a first by Jolen Drum in the 50 breast as well as numerous 2-3 finishes to stand tied after the individual events. Again, however, the Free Relay was our downfall, with Jersey Shore taking first to our 2-3 finish to win 38-36.

15 boys turned in another dominant performance, taking first in every event except the 50 fly to finish the season with only one loss. Shaun Smith (2 wins), Trevor Harris (2 wins) and Evan Nardone (1 win) teamed with Bryan Nardone to set a new team record in the Medley Relay as well.

15 girls ran into another JS buzzsaw (stocked with numerous league record-holders) but stayed competetive, with a 2nd place finish by Haley Miller and 3rds by Claire Smith and Molly Serfass highlighting this age group.

The close 4 1/2 - 5 1/2 final score left us even at 3-3 for the season - but the season's not over! The All-Star meet is coming up on July 25 - the team has already been chosen, based on top times during the "regular season"), but even if you weren't picked for the team, come and cheer on your teammates as we field one of our best chances for a first-place finish in years! And to end the season - CHAMPIONSHIPS! This year we will be hosting the Championship meet at OUR POOL, and we'd like to have a strong turnout at this final meet. EVERYONE is invited and encouraged to participate - there are no minimum entry times, and YOU get to pick the events that YOU want to swim ($2 entry fee per event; helps cover the cost of TEAM TROPHIES, MEDALS (top six finishers in individual events), and RIBBONS (finishers 6-12).
